Did you know that I am allergic to almost anything metal? Earrings, necklaces, any material, even sterling silver or gold. It tarnishes this black color that won't come off, or it hurts my skin, or both. Even sterling silver or gold jewelry. I can only wear earrings for short periods. Even my lovely kimono fabric ring, which I wear most days, is black on the underside (luckily you can't see it because of the way the ring is shaped). I still wear jewelry, because I love to accessorize, but I can't wear it for very long stretches of time.

I brought some pieces to Storyville last night! The owner saw my ad in Venus and contacted me. The store is amazing! I pretty much wanted one of everything they had. I can see myself getting into a lot of trouble there. Anyway, it feels like an exciting time for my little business right now.

PS - Little Juan C. is back! He is the cutest little guy EVER. I seriously cried when he left last time.

I did a little front porch makeover recently. We bought some patio furniture from this lady on Craigslist. The furniture was great, and we got a great deal, but the loveseat came without cushions and the chairs had ugly, ill-fitting pool furniture cushions like this:

We picked out some patterned canvas from the fabric store, and then I cut the cushions to fit the chairs. I sewed pillow sham style covers for the chair cushions and made throw pillows from the remaining segments of the cushions (we found the loveseat cushions at Target). Then I took the top from one of those three-legged "decorator tables" that I had in my first apartment, took the legs off, spray-painted it, and stacked some bricks for the base. My most recent addition is the capiz shell curtain, which you can see in the photos:

I love having a nice little porch where we can sit outside. If it weren't so hot, we'd be out there all the time.

I am so sad because our little Juan C. is leaving us tomorrow! I am not going to want to give him up, I can tell you that right now. He is such a little cutie and I pick him up about 20 times a day. Maybe Erica will give him to me, since it will be my birthday...

We have a houseguest!

This little cutie belongs to my sister's boyfriend's sister. His name is Juan Carlos and he's staying with us until Monday.

Here is a bag I made for my cousin for her birthday. It is khaki linen and I embroidered the butterflies in green. Note the red chairs we purchased in an IKEA frenzy this weekend.
